Shop local on Small Business Saturday
As retailers gear up for the official start of the holiday shopping season, the Greater Naples Chamber is encouraging community members to shop local to support small business.
“Small Business Saturday is a great way to support the economy of Collier County,” said Kristina Park, president and CEO of the Greater Naples Chamber. “Small and mid-sized businesses are the backbone of our community, and Small Business Saturday is the perfect way to invest in the success of our neighbors, friends and the vibrancy of Southwest Florida.”
Small Business Saturday was created by American Express in 2010 as a way for small businesses to get recognition and local support. Since then, the annual event has become an anticipated part of the holiday season and a way to magnify the existence of small businesses who create opportunity by keeping dollars local. Since 2011, the U.S. Small Business Administration has been an official co-sponsor of the event.
The SBA defines a small business as an independent business having fewer than 500 employees. From 1995 to 2021, small businesses created approximately 17.3 million net new jobs nationwide and have accounted for nearly 63% of net new job creation since 1995.
In Collier County, the majority of businesses are considered small businesses. The Greater Naples Chamber plays a pivotal role in supporting these business owners, from shopkeepers to manufacturers who foster our thriving business district. The Chamber’s Small Business Council provides counsel and guidance on issues of importance to these critical enterprises.
The Chamber has put together a list of member deals for the holiday season. For a full list of holiday offerings or to learn more about the Chamber, visit napleschamber.org.
