Description
Join the Great Backyard Bird Count, this year from February 13-16, a global citizen-science event that invites people of all ages and experience levels to help scientists better understand bird populations around the world. On February 13 from 8:00 to 11:00am, visitors are encouraged to stop by Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and join our naturalists at our bird feeding station area to observe and identify local birds from the comfort of the visitor center and the back deck of the center. This is a great opportunity to learn bird identification skills and contribute to meaningful scientific research. We will help visitors identify birds to record for the count by pointing out identifying characteristics, demonstrating binocular and scope use, and how to use bird identification guides and apps. Then you can go on our boardwalk and record what you find out there. If you’re unable to visit the Sanctuary, you can participate by conducting your own bird count from your backyard or a nearby outdoor space. Every observation helps researchers track where birds are overwintering and how populations are changing across the U.S. and globally.
