In Congress, he was known for his bipartisan efforts, including advocating for climate ac-tion and environmental restoration in Florida. He pushed for extending the offshore drilling moratorium and supported the Everglades Restoration Plan. Rooney is also notable for his advocacy for the peaceful transfer of power following the 2020 election.

A graduate of Georgetown University and Law Center, Rooney is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Italian. He lives in Naples, Florida, and Washington, D.C., with his wife and chil-dren.
