Naples Botanical Garden is seeking an experienced GIS Specialist (Independent Contractor) to provide on-site geospatial support across operational projects.

This is a contract position, expected to last up to one year, with quarterly reviews of progress and deliverables.

Contractor must be able to flex work hours as needed to meet with Garden experts for training, collaboration, and guidance.

Work will be billed at $33.00 per hour with a maximum of 40 hours per week.

The Scope of Work of this engagement includes the following:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all GIS, drones, GPS, mapping, and geospatial data collection resources at the Garden:
  • Administer and troubleshoot applications and GIS solutions.
  • Research and conduct tests on new tools.
  • Train staff and volunteers in field data collection protocols and mobile GIS tools.
  • Provide support for the collection and management of spatial data across a wide range of projects including plant and ecosystem conservation, collections management, garden construction and infrastructure, and overall management of resources:
  • Ensure data accuracy, metadata standards, and integration with existing databases.
  • Collect, process, and maintain spatial datasets related to plant collections, conservation areas, operational infrastructure, and ecological research.
  • Bridge fieldwork, research, curation, and institutional operations.
  • Participate in collaborative research and conservation projects including modeling and spatial analysis:
  • Conduct spatial analysis to support conservation planning.

Quarterly Deliverables

Quarter 1:

  • Review of current software and hardware required for GIS.
  • Inventory of existing hardware and condition report.
  • Reintroduction to field departments and review status of GIS data.
  • Create and schedule bi-weekly GIS group meetings with applicable departments (starting with Operations, Horticulture, and Natural Resources).
  • Train departments for data collection and use of mobile GIS location tools.

Quarter 2:

  • Data Collection Process:
  • Locate Mechanical infrastructure
  • Locate Electrical infrastructure
  • Locate Plumbing infrastructure
  • Locate Irrigation infrastructure
  • Conduct one-on-one bi-weekly meetings with department GIS leads.

Quarter 3:

  • GIS data input.
  • Continue data collection process:
  • Locate Mechanical infrastructure
  • Locate Electrical infrastructure
  • Locate Plumbing infrastructure
  • Locate Irrigation infrastructure
  • Conduct one-on-one bi-weekly meetings with department GIS leads.
  • Conduct data accuracy verification and ground truthing for collected data.

 
 
Quarter 4:

  • GIS data input.
  • Continue data collection process:
  • Locate Mechanical infrastructure
  • Locate Electrical infrastructure
  • Locate Plumbing infrastructure
  • Locate Irrigation infrastructure
  • Conduct one-on-one bi-weekly meetings with department GIS leads.
  • Conduct data accuracy verification and ground truthing for collected data.
  • Training of GIS Leads:
  • GIS program use
  • ESRI tools
  • Map and Reader access


Requirements:

  • Experience using ArcGis Online.
  • Experience using data collection GPS units.
  • Experience with training others or displays a collaborative spirit.
  • Comfort with outdoor spaces and encounters with wildlife, not limited to snakes, spiders, birds, and rodents.
