The Garden’s mission is to connect people and plants through display, education, conservation, and applied science. Position Summary: This is an integral position in the operations department responsible for the safety and security of the Garden’s visitors and staff. This position is responsible for maintaining building and property security, monitoring safety and safety training of staff, maintaining facility compliance with safety and security, and reducing hazards in the workplace. This is a full-time position with a Sunday -Thursday work schedule and holidays required. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Day to day support of safety and security. 
• Provides facility safety and vehicle training to onboarding staff.
• Continued education and training to all staff related to fire, incidents, vehicles, and general safety principles. 
• Implements and fosters a culture of safety and awareness through plans, policies, and procedures to protect personnel, assets, and information. 
• Responds to medical emergencies and injury incidents that occur with the Garden’s visitors and staff.
• Maintains staff certifications and documentation related to first aid/CPR and safety and security policies and procedures.
• Ensures security resources such as alarms, cameras, perimeter gates, locks and other security related items are operational. Coordinates with security vendors on monitoring and reporting.   
• Coordinates with human resources and IT on safety related issues.
• Coordinates with vendors and county agencies on managing compliance, annual fire inspections, drills/safety measures, equipment functions, fire systems testing/reporting, permitting, and inspections.
• Assists operations in other areas when required. 

Requirements/Qualifications: 

• Minimum four years of hands-on field experience with building safety and security management. 
• Good computer skills including experience with IMMS central control system, security software, and MS Office. 
• Certifications in CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogen, Active Shooter Training, Crowd Control Certification, and other various security related certifications preferred. 
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
• May stand for long periods of time. Walk and inspect property. Work in extreme temperatures and dirty environment. Lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Drive Garden vehicles and golf cart. 
• Must be comfortable around wildlife encounters. 
• Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
