Collier Children’s Advocacy Center’s ‘Pinwheels at the Pier’ draws community in powerful show of support for child abuse prevention
The Collier Children’s Advocacy Center (Collier CAC) welcomed community members to Lowdermilk Park early April for its annual “Pinwheels at the Pier” event, marking the start of National Child Abuse Prevention Month with a powerful visual display and strong community participation.
More than 1,400 pinwheels were placed along the shoreline by staff, volunteers and attendees, creating a striking design of a sun emerging from behind clouds. This year’s design is a symbol of hope, healing and brighter days ahead for children impacted by abuse.
Now in its 10th year, the event continued its unique tradition as the largest pinwheel display in the country and the only one set directly on the beach. The shoreline setting once again provided a meaningful and highly visible reminder that child abuse prevention is a community responsibility.
Community members participated by purchasing pinwheels in honor of children and helping place them in the sand during the event. Proceeds from the initiative support Collier CAC’s trauma-informed programs and services, including forensic interviews, medical evaluations, therapy, court advocacy and parent education, all provided at no cost to families.
“Each pinwheel represents a child and the safe, happy childhood they deserve,” said Jackie Stephens, CEO of Collier CAC. “This year’s sun-and-cloud design reflects the reality that while children may face difficult circumstances, there is always hope and our community plays a critical role in helping them heal and thrive.”
“Pinwheels at the Pier” continues to grow as a signature community event, bringing together residents, advocates and supporters to raise awareness and inspire action throughout Collier County.
Collier CAC staff and volunteers were on-site during the event to engage with attendees and share information about the organization’s services and impact in the community.
