Community philanthropists rally support for STARability, raising more than $28,000 at spring fundraiser

More than 50 guests gathered this spring for an elegant tea party fundraiser in support of STARability Foundation, raising over $28,000 to benefit programs and services that empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The event was hosted by STARability board members, advocates and dedicated community philanthropists Holly Shapiro and Laura Georgelos at Forever Fiore Tea Lounge. Both women have been longtime supporters of STARability’s mission of serving adults throughout the community with IDD and have been dedicated to highlighting the vital importance of the organization.

Guests enjoyed an afternoon of tea, champagne and learning about the nonprofit’s mission and development plans for their new campus, which will expand services and growth for participants and families across the region.

Guest speakers included a moving speech from Chloe Kahn, a STARability participant, and her mother, Lisa Kahn-Allen, who is a board member and lead interior designer for the new campus. Madison Nehls, chief program officer at STARability, spoke passionately about the organization’s programs and exciting future plans.

Attendees at the event supported STARability through donations and incredible raffle prizes, such as a grand prize of diamond earrings valued at $8,000 generously donated by Gabriel Alves of Crown Jewelers in Naples. Additional raffle prizes included a Lilly Pulitzer purse, mobile tanning sessions, closet organization by a personal stylist, wearable art jewelry, a tea party at Forever Fiore and more.

“We are extremely grateful to hosts Holly Shapiro and Laura Georgelos, the guests and raffle prize donors for coming together for this exciting event to share our mission,” said Karen Govern, CEO of STARability Foundation. “Together, your generosity will allow us to build a more inclusive future and expand life-transforming programs for people with IDD.”
