The Conservancy of Southwest Florida welcomes Dr. Kendall Carlin as its new staff veterinarian at the von Arx Wildlife Hospital.
Carlin received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University. Most recently, Carlin was a veterinary intern at Partners for Wildlife at The Raptor Center and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota (over 20,000 animal admissions annually) and Tufts Wildlife Clinic at Tufts University.
Prior to her veterinarian achievements, Carlin gained research experience in academic laboratories and worked abroad in New Zealand and Taiwan. Dr. Carlin believes education and communication are vital to wildlife conservation and medicine.
Conservancy Chief Programs Officer Michele Arquette-Palermo shares, “The entire Conservancy team is thrilled to have Dr. Carlin join the von Arx Wildlife Hospital. Her commitment to mentoring volunteers and guiding students is matched only by her dedication to improving the well-being of her wildlife patients.”
Carlin succeeds Dr. PJ Deitschel, who served the hospital with dedication for 12 years as the Conservancy’s first full-time staff veterinarian.
The von Arx Wildlife Hospital is part of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and works to rehabilitate and release over 4,000 wildlife patients a year. Sick, injured and/or orphaned animals are rescued and brought to the von Arx Wildlife Hospital by concerned citizens throughout Southwest Florida. Please call 239-262-2273 for wildlife assistance. The von Arx Wildlife Hospital is open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The staff veterinarian position at the von Arx Wildlife Hospital is generously funded by the William G. and Sonya F. Allyn Memorial Endowment for Veterinary Care and the Vicky C. and David Byron Smith Wildlife Endowment Fund.
