Klezmer, Judaica and Mrs. Maisel: Jewish Federation of Greater Naples hosts arts-themed Day of Learning
The Jewish Federation of Greater Naples invites the public to the Jewish Community Relations Council's 10th Annual Day of Learning on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Nina Iser Jewish Cultural Center at 4720 Pine Ridge Road in Naples.
This year's program is entitled "The Joys of Jewish Arts and Entertainment" and will feature actor Adam Shapiro; scholars Daniel Scheide and Alethea Perez; and music historian Tom Cimarusti.
As part of its mission, the Jewish Community Relations Council seeks to build bridges of communication and understanding with the broader Naples community.
Shapiro is an actor, singer and raconteur who was recently featured in "Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish." He also appeared as a cantor on the popular Amazon Prime series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."
Scheide and Perez, of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, will present a program on the institution's special collection of Jewish music and rare books.
The program will conclude with a musical discussion and concert of klezmer music by Tom Cimarusti, a professor of music history at Florida Gulf Coast University and founder/director of the Center for Public Musicology.
Cimarusti has organized numerous world music ensembles, including a klezmer band, The Klezmaniacs, which celebrates and preserves the traditional music of the Sephardic Jews of Eastern Europe.
The cost of the program is $18 per person, with an option to participate remotely by Zoom for the same price. A limited number of VIP seats, which include lunch with the speakers, are available for $54 per person.
Tickets can be purchased at jewishnaples.org or directly at this link: jfgn.regfox.com/day-of-learning-2025
