NAMI Collier to partner with North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District for Mental Health Action Day
In honor of Mental Health Action Day, NAMI Collier, a nonprofit organization that provides no-cost mental health services, and the North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District are inviting first responders, businesses and community leaders to show support, raise awareness and help break the stigma that surrounds mental health on May 15.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Thursday, May 15 is recognized nationally as Mental Health Action Day, a day focused on shifting the conversation from mental health awareness to action. Having the knowledge and tools to help support friends, family and colleagues can make a lifesaving impact.
“Our first responders are no strangers to action, and they’re on the front lines of all types of crises," said Beth Hatch, CEO of NAMI Collier County. “Our partnerships with organizations like North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office are key to educating first responders on how to care for the mental health of others and themselves.”
“The individuals who make up the fire service are compassionate and caring. Their commitment to the health, safety and welfare of the communities they serve is unmatched and often comes at a cost,” said North Collier Fire Chief, Eloy Ricardo. “As Fire Chief, I understand the importance of mental health awareness in the fire service. Mental health, which includes a person's whole health, is very personal. Being able to offer a variety of resources for our emergency responders is invaluable, and we are grateful for the work NAMI Collier has done and will continue to do to assist our team members.”
NAMI Collier will host a Positive Mental Health Block Party at its headquarters, located at 5025 Castello Dr #101 in Naples, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Guests can enjoy refreshments, guided tours of the facility and learn about NAMI Collier’s services, including peer support groups, the HUGS Children’s Mental Health Program, life skills coaching and programs to help those with serious mental illness navigate everyday challenges. North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District Command Staff will be onsite to engage in conversation and show support. Those interested in attending can RSVP at https://app.BetterUnite.com/NAMICollierCounty-PositiveMentalHealthBlockParty.
In addition to the Positive Mental Health Block Party, individuals and businesses can show support and help make a difference in several other ways:
- Wear green, the color of mental health awareness, on May 15.
- Shine green light on office buildings in solidarity that evening. A simple but powerful visual statement.
- Become a NAMI Collier “Circle of Hope” Ambassador in 2025. For $20.25 a month, individuals and businesses can help connect someone to life-saving services. Learn more online.
- Encourage your friends, family and colleagues to participate in Mental Health Action Day.
- Take photos and tag @NAMICollier and #GreenForMentalHealth #NAMICollier #SWFLStrong.
