Naples-based Onda Housing Group breaks ground on Wave at Colonial community

Onda Housing Group has broken ground on Wave at Colonial, an affordable housing community at 11800 State Road 82 in Fort Myers.

Wave at Colonial will provide 358 rental units for qualified Lee County residents, helping address the growing need for attainable housing throughout the region. The property will remain affordable for 99 years, ensuring residents will have access to high quality, resilient housing in a prime location for generations to come.

Once completed, Wave at Colonial will offer a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units, ideal for individuals, working professionals and growing families. Units will feature high-end finishes and energy efficient appliances, and the community will include amenities such as a pool, playground, clubhouse, fitness center, covered outdoor seating areas, community grills and walking paths. The development will serve households earning up to 60% of the area median income (AMI).

Developed in partnership with Lee County, Citi Community Capital, Florida Housing Finance Corporation, the City of Fort Myers and U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance, Wave at Colonial reflects a collaborative effort to overcome market challenges and expand access to high-quality, affordable housing in Southwest Florida.

“Wave at Colonial represents a significant step forward in addressing the housing needs of Lee County residents,” said Andrew Cribbs, CEO and co-founder of Onda Housing Group. “By working alongside our public and private partners, we are creating a community that will provide stability, opportunity and a foundation for long-term success for hundreds of families.”

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from Onda Housing Group, Lee County and the City of Fort Myers, along with local civic and business leaders. Elected officials in attendance included Lee Board of County Commissioners Chairman Cecil Pendergrass, Vice Chairman David Mulicka and Commissioner Trish Petrosky; Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson; Fort Myers Councilwoman Diana Giraldo; Ryan Benson of the Florida Housing Finance Corporation; and Cherie Denham, Southwest Florida regional representative for Gov. Ron DeSantis.

“Wave at Colonial represents more than just new construction, it represents opportunity,” said Anderson. “This development will bring 358 new affordable housing units to Fort Myers. Serving individuals earning up to 60% of the area median income. That means teachers, healthcare workers, service employees. People who keep our community running will have a place they can afford to call home. And that matters.”

Wave at Colonial is part of Onda Housing Group’s broader mission to provide a new wave of equitable living opportunities across the country. Through strong partnerships and a commitment to financial certainty, Onda continues to expand access to attainable housing while promoting economic mobility and strengthening local communities.

“Affordable housing is critical to the health and sustainability of our communities,” said Cribbs. “When residents have access to quality housing at attainable price points, it creates opportunities for growth, stability and a stronger local economy. We are proud to bring this impactful development to Fort Myers and Lee County.”
