New Nonpartisan Guide Demystifies Local Government and Florida Elections for Collier County Voters
NAPLES, Fla. — Sparker’s Soapbox has released Vote Smart Collier County: A Nonpartisan Guide for Col- lier County Voters, which provides factual, nonpartisan information about how local, state, and federal gov- ernment are structured and how Florida’s election system operates.
As Collier County continues to attract new residents from across the country, many voters arrive unfamiliar with how government is structured here and how Florida’s election system works. Differences between Flor- ida and other states often become apparent only when it is time to register or cast a ballot.
Vote Smart Collier County includes concise overviews of local, state, and federal government structures and maps of voting districts relevant to Collier County voters. It describes the roles and responsibilities of county and municipal governments, the school board, and special districts; explains Florida’s closed primary sys- tem; and includes information about voter registration, voting methods, and key dates for the 2026 election cycle.
“Being an informed voter requires more than knowing candidate names. It requires understanding how the system actually works,” said Sandy Parker, founder and publisher of Sparker’s Soapbox. “This guide is meant to familiarize voters with the many elected positions that will be on the ballot and help them feel more confident and prepared when they go to vote.”
“We support the distribution of nonpartisan election materials,” said Melissa R. Blazier, Collier County Su- pervisor of Elections. “Vote Smart Collier County provides nonpartisan information that aligns with our commitment to accurate, unbiased and transparent voter education for Collier County citizens.” Sparker’s Soapbox is a nonpartisan civic information platform focused on Collier County and Florida gov- ernment, publishing a Substack newsletter, election research, and introductory guides to local civics. In addi- tion, Sandy Parker regularly provides civic education presentations to community groups throughout the county.
