Pelican Bay earns national recognition from USTA

Pelican Bay Tennis has received the 2025 U.S. Tennis Association National Outstanding Facility Award, one of the most prestigious honors in the sport. The award recognizes facilities from across the country that demonstrate exceptional commitment to the growth and development of tennis in their communities.

The award was presented on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center during the U.S. Open in New York. Pelican Bay Director of Community Center and Racquets Maury Bozman accepted the award on behalf of Pelican Bay, marking the second time in his career that Bozman has led an organization in achieving this national recognition.

“We are proud to be recognized on a national stage for our commitment to tennis,” said Bozman. “From our robust instructional programs to our professional coaching staff and the incredible support of our 4,500 active tennis members, Pelican Bay continues to be a place where players of all ages and skill levels can thrive.”

Bozman brings more than two decades of leadership in racquet sports and private club management, with a career defined by growing programs, building facilities and elevating member experiences. Since joining Pelican Bay in 2020, he has expanded programming, assembled a high-performing coaching team, and championed new initiatives that strengthen member engagement and community partnerships. His vision and stewardship have been central to elevating Pelican Bay into one of the region’s most active and well-regarded racquet sports communities, and to securing this national recognition from the USTA.

Pelican Bay’s current program is built around four pillars: Learn, Practice, Connect and Compete. Since 2020, more than 200 new players have been welcomed through instructional programs designed to grow participation. The community also supports one of the largest Cardio Tennis programs in the region, offering up to eight weekly classes during season. A team of accomplished coaches — including former touring pro Toni Novack, doubles specialist Todd Watkins, Tennis Professional Mike Kopp and FGCU Men’s Tennis Coach Josh Molino — leads a wide range of clinics and competitive opportunities, with members fielding numerous USTA and CTA traveling teams. With 18 hydro-grid clay courts maintained to professional standards, Pelican Bay serves more than 4,500 active tennis members and has become one of the most dynamic racquet sports communities in Southwest Florida.

“This recognition is especially meaningful as we prepare to open our new pickleball and tennis facility in partnership with Collier County,” Bozman said. “It reflects how far we’ve come and also where we’re headed by expanding racquet sport opportunities in the community.”

The $6-million project delivers a significant community asset and ensures shared access, with 20 pickleball courts and eight Har-Tru clay tennis courts available to Pelican Bay members and open to the general public for a nominal fee.

In addition to the courts, the complex will feature expanded parking and a pavilion with restrooms, concessions and event space. These amenities are designed to make the facility a true community gathering place. Expected to open in October, the new facility underscores Pelican Bay’s commitment to racquet sports excellence, healthy lifestyles and community connection.
