Romanza Interior Design transforms a Miromar Lakes home into a private resort

Beth M. was excited for the grand reveal of her redesigned home in Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club. After months away, she looked forward to seeing the work completed by Romanza Interior Design’s Melissa Allen, who transformed the home into an entertaining showplace and an inviting winter retreat for herself and guests.

“When I came for season in fall 2022, the design was substantially completed,” Beth recalled. “I walked every square inch of the home and realized there was not a single thing I would change. There’s not a corner of the home that doesn’t make you smile and feel welcome.”

It’s a sentiment she still feels today, enjoying the simple pleasure of meandering and savoring the spaces, which now include a redesigned office and master suite and a vibrant sunset viewing deck along Miromar’s large lake. The estate represents her second collaboration with designer Melissa Allen. They first met in 2019 after Beth purchased a Romanza-designed model home in Miromar Lakes. Allen helped her personalize everything, from cabinetry and flooring to all furnishings, for a second-floor addition.

While the first home offered a blank canvas, Beth’s current residence, had an aesthetic she likened to a vacation rental home. But it had “exquisite” architectural bones, including “20-foot ceilings, windows everywhere, high-gloss white marble floors and a floating staircase.” She lived there the first season without making changes; however, the space just didn’t resonate with her dynamic personality or her passion for entertaining overnight guests and hosting charity events.

“I was ready for the next chapter in Florida and wanted to include and invite friends and family and create an atmosphere where people felt welcomed and comfortable in this house,” Beth said.

“Beth is very generous, very social and her home is all about entertaining,” said Allen, senior interior designer for Romanza. “Everything is about her guests.”

Allen created a palette that honors the architecture while infusing warmth and blending Beth’s existing furniture with new pieces. Soft whites, punctuated with vibrant pops of lavender, teal and lime greens, fuchsia and various shades of blue, along with a mix of dark woods, achieved the desired look. A beautiful silvery patina and Beth’s extensive collection of art glass cast an illuminating glow while custom artwork reflects her tastes. “You walk in and feel enveloped,” Beth said. “Guests are blown away but still feel like they can sit down. We had a wonderful time envisioning what this home could be. The design is contemporary without being hard edged. I wanted an aesthetic halfway between Miami and Naples coastal.”

The unique color scheme was inspired by the fabric of the dining room chairs, a floral pattern of lavender, taupe, seafoam green and sage green. “That was our starting point,” said Allen, whose design selections complemented the home’s warm neutral wall paint with a subtle lavender tint.

For Beth, the joy of her home lies in its ability to entertain, and nowhere is this more evident than on the 1,000-square-foot lanai. This outdoor oasis, which she envisioned as “the best room in the whole house,” was designed for day-to-night enjoyment, accommodating overnight guests and frequent parties. “Guests go out there and say, ‘Wow,’” she said. “I want them to feel like they’re coming to a resort for the weekend. They’re getting away from the cold north and are so grateful to come outside with coffee in the morning while still in their pajamas.”

With teak furnishings, a large upholstered sofa and lounge chairs adorned with resort-inspired white-and-aqua striped cushions and pillows, the lanai exudes a 1950s cabana vibe. Beth and Allen took the time to find the perfect dining table, which seats 10 and highlights Beth’s collection of Murano glass fish. In lieu of a traditional Florida outdoor kitchen, she opted for a sophisticated entertaining bar with a refinished fireplace, custom cabinetry with glass display shelves and a beverage center.

“The outdoor area was Beth’s priority,” said Allen. “She wanted it to be magnificent and that’s what she got. It feels like an interior living room with a lot of color and custom backlit glass panels on the back wall of the outdoor bar. This is one of my favorite outdoor living spaces I’ve done.”

The expansive infinity pool appears to seamlessly blend into the lake and comfortably accommodates guests. Adding to the resort-like ambiance, Beth and Allen recently transformed a new lakefront deck with western exposure into a custom Veuve Clicquot-themed deck. The playful space features color-coordinated Adirondack chairs, champagne cork tables, the signature bright yellow of the champagne house’s labels and a custom blue fire pit.

The home’s commitment to hospitality extends to its five distinct bedrooms, each a private retreat.

“Beth wants her home to feel like The Ritz,” said Allen, noting bedrooms were designed with specific guests in mind. “She’d rather be at her home than anywhere else. She calls it her happy place.”

For Beth, the transformation was nothing short of magical. “Melissa can walk in and visualize a room which honors what you want and how you want to live,” she said. “It’s magic. She presents options that reflect what you’re trying to accomplish and helps you capture it. It’s elegant but accessible. She brought my home to life.”
