Romanza Interior Design transforms home into a custom winter retreat for Naples family
In the heart of Naples’ Cambridge Park at Orange Blossom, Carolyn and Tony Iuliano found their ideal winter escape in the Martinique home. From the moment they stepped inside the showcase estate, the sleek, polished porcelain tile – an ethereal mix of soft whites and grays – captured their imagination. This elegantly understated flooring, flowing seamlessly throughout the home, became the foundation upon which Romanza Interior Design’s award-winning team would create a personalized sanctuary tailored to their unique style.
When the couple enlisted Romanza Interior Design to bring their vision to life, the home’s existing finishes served as a natural starting point. Yet, the task at hand was to weave the couple’s personal aesthetic into the design, transforming the polished backdrop into something distinctly their own.
“The Iulianos wanted a space that would reflect their lifestyle and provide a winter getaway for their family,” said Jennifer Stevens, senior design director at Romanza Interior Design. “From our initial conversations, it became clear that Carolyn was drawn to pieces with character and history. She wanted a sense of elegance without sacrificing comfort, and we worked to blend those two sensibilities.”
The result is a thoughtfully curated balance of coastal farmhouse charm, subtle glamour, and clean, modern lines. The home’s design seamlessly reflects a preference for simplicity, where each piece stands as a statement, free from unnecessary clutter. “The desire was for a clean, airy look,” Stevens explained. “The porcelain tile throughout the home is very sleek and upscale, so we continued that theme throughout the design. Every piece was chosen to come alive on its own without an overabundance of rugs, throws or accessories allowing design to speak for itself.”
The Romanza team carefully selected furniture and finishes to highlight character-rich, distressed pieces. In the great room, for instance, a console table exudes a sense of history, with soft, weathered hues of blue and green peeking through the light wood tones. Nearby, a curved table with slender legs, reminiscent of an antique family heirloom, graces the hallway just outside the primary bath. A distressed chest featuring ornate floral detailing, complemented by a custom piece of artwork, serves as a focal point outside one of the guest bedrooms. These intentional design choices reflect the couple’s appreciation for furniture that feels storied and lived-in, adding a sense of warmth and authenticity to the modern, polished surroundings.
To balance the distressed finishes, Romanza infused the home with soft touches and luxe fabrics in shades of blue, gray and white. “We played with textures to elevate the space,” Stevens said. “For example, the drapery panels and accent chairs in the great room bring in shades of gray and blue, while crystals in the lighting fixtures add a subtle touch of glamour. It’s these small details that bring the room to life, creating depth and sophistication without overwhelming the space.”
In the kitchen, the existing gray Shaker-style cabinets and polished nickel hardware set a contemporary tone, which Romanza accentuated with oversized pendant lights above the large island. “With a room this open, every design element needed to work together to fill the space with interest,” said Stevens.
A statement-making laser-cut mosaic backsplash in an organic design, paired with two wood floating shelves above the coffee bar, offers an eye-catching entry point to the home. “With the high ceilings, it was important to take advantage of the vertical space,” Stevens explained. “The floating shelves provide storage while also drawing the eye upward.”
Each room in the home reflects the client’s personal tastes and lifestyle. A private office and prayer room is a tranquil space where soft, warm tones of blue and greige set a calming tone. The Romanza team used a serene cork wallpaper with a floral design to anchor the room, while a desk with fluted detailing floats gracefully in the center for work tasks. A cozy sitting area, perfect for prayer and reflection, completes the room. “Carolyn wanted a space that was uniquely hers, where she could escape and unwind,” Stevens noted. “The textures, colors and furniture all work together to create a soothing environment.”
To add interest to the room’s tall windows without overwhelming them, Romanza designed custom cornice window treatments in complementary blue and white fabrics. “The cornices frame the windows and help draw the eye upward,” Stevens said. “Preferring shutters throughout most of the home for a clean look, we used fabric treatments to introduce softness and a bit of visual intrigue without the bulk of drapes.”
In the primary suite, Romanza created a tranquil retreat with traditional-meets-coastal influences. Shades of blue and champagne infuse the space with serenity, while a metal bed with ornate detailing serves as the room’s focal point. The rich wood tones found in other areas of the home are carried through the primary bedroom’s furniture, creating a cohesive look that ties the entire home together.
The two guest bedrooms were designed to reflect the personalities of the couple’s daughters. One bedroom features a striking black metal bed with upholstery to soften the look, while curved metal lamps on the nightstands add a modern touch. Pink bedding and artwork lend softness to the space, creating a balanced blend of elements. The second guest room, by contrast, features a lighter metal bed with bedding, accessories and artwork in soothing shades of blue.
“We wanted each guest room to feel unique, but still connected to the home’s overall aesthetic,” Stevens said. “These rooms needed to be personal, but not so far removed from the design that they felt like separate spaces.”
As a final touch, Romanza collaborated with California Closets to design a built-in drop station just off the garage. With custom hooks, drawers and a cushioned bench, this area is both functional and stylish, offering the perfect solution for storing coats, bags and hats. “With Carolyn’s input, this space was crafted to be practical, yet beautiful,” Stevens said. “It’s another way to maintain the clean, streamlined look she wanted throughout the home.”
