STARability Foundation celebrates World Autism Acceptance Month with a focus on inclusion, connection and empowerment

April is World Autism Acceptance Month, and STARability Foundation is inviting the community to join in building a more inclusive and supportive world for individuals of all abilities. STARability Foundation, a leading nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is encouraging everyone to come together to raise awareness, showcasing the power of connection, creativity and community engagement.

STARability embraces a person-first approach that honors every individual’s potential. Through an engaging calendar of innovative programs, STARability helps participants discover their talents, develop lifelong skills and build meaningful relationships. From art and music to vocational training and life skills coaching, these enrichment programs are designed to promote independence, confidence and community involvement.

“At STARability, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to shine,” said Karen Govern, CEO of STARability Foundation. “Through inclusive activities, partnerships and support networks, we’re creating a stronger, more welcoming community where differences are celebrated and abilities are recognized.”

Throughout the month, STARability encourages the public to participate in awareness campaigns like Autism Speaks’ “Light It Up Blue” initiative, which uses the color blue to symbolize calmness, acceptance and support. STARability is also asking the community to take action, by learning more about autism, volunteering, advocating for inclusion and helping to ensure that every individual has access to the tools they need to thrive.

“Whether at home, school or work, understanding and acceptance from the community can create an inclusive and accepting world, making a real difference in the lives of our participants,” said Govern. “This April and beyond, join us in celebrating all differences and creating a supportive environment for everyone to shine.”

For four decades, STARability Foundation has been shining a light on abilities. Formed by a small community of caring parents, STARability has become one of Southwest Florida’s leading nonprofits. Today, the organization is opening a world of possibilities for hundreds of individuals ages 14 and older by offering a variety of inclusive programs focused on vocational training, continuing education, teamwork, social engagement and community involvement. Their compassionate team supports people with disabilities by providing life-transforming opportunities that emphasize teamwork and a connection to the community while strengthening awareness and respect for individual abilities.
