STARability Foundation is shining blue during Autism Awareness Month
As part of Autism Awareness Month, STARability Foundation is encouraging the community to “shine blue” by embracing the unique strengths, talents and perspectives of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Celebrated each April, the national 2026 Autism Awareness month theme, “Celebrate Differences,” highlights the importance of recognizing neurodiversity as a strength. It underscores the need for inclusive practices in schools, workplaces and communities to ensure individuals are not only understood but truly accepted and supported.
This year’s observance aligns with broader global efforts to move beyond awareness campaigns toward lasting change by emphasizing community support, accessibility and empowerment. By fostering acceptance in everyday interactions, individuals and organizations can play a critical role in creating inclusive spaces where neurodivergent individuals are respected and celebrated.
“At STARability, we see every individual for who they are and all they can become,” said Karen Govern, CEO of STARability Foundation. “Autism Awareness Month is a reminder that inclusion goes beyond awareness; it’s about action. When we celebrate differences, we build stronger, more compassionate communities where everyone has the opportunity to shine.”
Throughout April, STARability encourages the public to take part in initiatives and partnerships that promote understanding. From learning more about autism and advocating for inclusive opportunities to volunteering and supporting local programs, every action helps reduce stigma and build a more accepting world.
“Acceptance starts with each of us,” added Govern. “Whether at home, at work or in the community, small actions can make a big impact. Together, we can ensure that individuals of all abilities are embraced, supported and given every opportunity to succeed.”
