STARability Foundation receives impactful gift from Goodness for Pets and the Seevers Family Foundation to fund scholarships
STARability Foundation is honored to announce it has received a generous gift from Sharon Seevers, owner of Goodness for Pets in North Naples and co-trustee of the Seevers Family Foundation, that will cover half of the nonprofit’s annual scholarship budget. These essential funds will ensure dozens of participants can access STARability’s life-changing opportunities.
As a leading nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, STARability’s scholarship program creates opportunities for participants by offering partial or full scholarships. Approximately 41% of participants in the Trailblazer Academy program receive annual scholarships.
“This extraordinary gift from Sharon Seevers, Goodness for Pets and the Seevers Family Foundation will help STARability continue to provide support to families in need for their loved one to access the life-transforming experiences of our Trailblazer Academy,” said Karen Govern, CEO of STARability Foundation. “This gift is more than financial support; it is a reflection of gratitude, hope and a shared belief in building a community where every ability is valued and every family belongs. Most of all, it is a reminder that when families, businesses and communities come together, we can open doors, expand opportunities and create a place where every individual has the chance to shine.”
One shining example of the impact of the organization’s scholarship program is showcased by Alexis, a STARability participant. She first joined STARability as a high school student in 2017, became one of the first enrollees in the Jr. Trailblazer Academy, and has since blossomed into a confident young adult working independently at Winfield Coffee. With the support of STARability’s compassionate team, she continues to build strong connections and take meaningful steps toward independence.
“STARability has given Alexis the tools and confidence to thrive,” said Jen, Alexis’ mother. “We want other families to feel that same support and know that they are not alone in this journey.”
Jen serves as manager at Goodness for Pets, while Alexis assists customers and gains valuable workplace experience. Together, they left a lasting impression on Seevers, whose admiration for their positivity, progress and commitment to STARability inspired this remarkable contribution to fund scholarships for other STARability families.
“Supporting this cause is deeply personal to me,” said Seevers. “Goodness for Pets has proudly supported STARability for years, but when Alexis and her mom, Jen, became part of our team, I saw firsthand the strength, joy and growth this program makes possible. My hope is that this gift allows even more families to access the opportunities and resources they deserve right here in our community.”
