STARability honors the impact of inclusive employment during National Disability Employment Awareness Month

STARability Foundation, a leading nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is pleased to share the impact of inclusive employment during National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2025, NDEAM is recognized annually in October to highlight employment barriers and recognize the skills and achievements offered by people of all abilities. This year’s theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” emphasizes the vital contributions they provide to our workforce and economy.

Through STARability’s career services program, participants learn job skills, explore career opportunities and find employment with businesses who believe in their abilities. A dedicated team purposefully connects participants to supportive, inclusive employers throughout the Naples community. As an approved provider for the Florida Department of Education Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), STARability provides individualized, comprehensive support to participants at every stage of their careers.

“STARability’s comprehensive range of career services provides more than simply job support; we build lasting relationships between inclusive employers and our participants to create meaningful opportunities for both to learn, grow and thrive,” said Halley Kretschmer, director of career services at STARability. “Over the years, we have seen countless positive outcomes for businesses and organizations throughout the community. With each new employment opportunity, our STARs continue to shine and prove the incredible impact they offer through their hard work, determination and unique abilities.”

Studies have shown that businesses employing people with disabilities benefit from stronger workplace culture and higher retention rates. STARability also serves as a resource to employers, providing education and training on best practices for inclusive employment.

Businesses interested in learning more about inclusive employment opportunities are invited to attend STARability’s next Reverse Job Fair being hosted from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Naples Therapeutic Riding Center. Offered bi-annually, the special event is open to the public and provides the chance for local businesses to engage with a select group of career-focused STARability participants, showcasing their experience, skills and abilities. Interested businesses can learn more and RSVP at STARability.org/upcoming-events, and are welcome to attend any time during the event.

Currently, STARability partners with a variety of organizations for employment and training opportunities, including Air Bar Blowouts & Extensions, Athletica Health & Fitness, BCB Homes, Bogannam European Automotive, Connor + Gaskins, Cosmos Ristorante & Pizzeria, Driftwood Garden Center, Germain Toyota of Naples, Golisano Children's Museum of Naples (CMON), Greater Naples Officials Association, Macy’s, Michaels, Publix, STAR Studio & Artisan Gifts, Stofft Cooney Architects, Twin Eagles and Winfield Street Coffee.
