STARability Foundation, a leading nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, raised a record-breaking $3.2 million at the sold-out 7th Annual STAR Gala: Illuminating Abilities. Over 570 guests enjoyed an inspirational evening at The Ritz-Carlton Naples, Tiburón. Funds raised will support STARability’s innovative, community-based and life-changing programs, experiences and opportunities for people of all abilities.

The Neapolitan chic celebration featured cocktails, dancing and an expansive silent and live auction offering exclusive, one-of-a-kind items. Following an elegant cocktail reception, STAR participants dazzled guests with a powerful performance of “This is Me.”

Henry B., a participant in STARability’s Jr. Trailblazer Academy, filled the room with his infectious energy while he shared his personal story with the audience. “I have participated in almost every program, class and sport at STARability. I even had the chance to lead this year’s 5K Run, Walk and Roll,” said Henry. “I’ve learned a lot through STARability, like how to work through emotions, cook meals and be professional. I am proud of this, but I am especially proud of the friends I’ve made here and the inspiration they bring to my life. These experiences with STARability have helped me and my friends become independent, be more confident and find connections in the community. I have big goals, and because of STARability, and people like you, the possibilities are endless!”

Inspired by Henry’s story, nearly 100 donors were moved to champion STARability’s transformational mission, pledging more than $1.7 million as part of the organization’s Fund Our Need, in support operational funds.

The evening also raised more than $500,000 through a thrilling live auction, which culminated in dueling bids for an intimate dinner hosted by Jeff and Valerie Boyd Gargiulo in their private residence in Old Naples going for $100,000. Additional top lots included golfing with PGA Pros Keith Mitchell and Greyson Sigg at the stunning Sea Island Resort, a getaway package to breathtaking Harbour Island in the Bahamas, a 10-day safari in Tanzania and an owner’s experience with exclusive Club-level access at five exciting sporting events.

In addition to the incredible live auction, a variety of over 50 sensational silent auction items offered something unique for everyone in dining, shopping, travel and experiences, beauty and wellness, fashion and clothing, sports and more.

As part of the inspirational program, STARability presented a visionary award to Tom Golisano to recognize the profound difference he has made in the lives of its participants and the future of the organization. His continued generosity has allowed STARability to secure a permanent home where people of all abilities in the community will have access to growth, learning and social connections in a supportive, welcoming and inclusive environment.
